"The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]." John 10:10 AMP

I've been thinking of that word all year long. Abundance. What does that mean for me? What does that mean for you? What does life in abundance and living in abundance even mean? Jesus came to give us that. But what is it?

Oxford tells us that abundance means "a very large quantity of something" or "plentifulness of the good things of life". Okay.. so Jesus came to give us a very large quantity of the good things of life. A VERY LARGE QUANTITY OF LIFE. To me, that sounds like He wants us to take life into our hands every day and to enjoy it to the full.. till it overflows. He wants us to do that which brings us life and makes us feel alive. A friend of mine once said, "Let's it (life)? While nothing is ever perfect and each day is not always lovable - I do believe that there is a lot to like". And with that I believe Jesus fills our hearts and minds in abundance of His love, His glory, His presence, and His holiness. "Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen."

So what makes you feel alive and feeling like you are truly living in abundance? A few months ago I sat down in the middle of a funk and wrote a long list of things that I love when they are present in my life. These things can be complex or the most simple. I find it easier to start with the simplest things that bring you joy and life. For me that looks like - nails painted, candles, flowers, my skincare every morning and night, empty sink, bookstores, shaved legs, windows down on a sunny day, etc. Those are things that I can personally control with the time given. Things that Jesus has so graciously blessed me with that can bring a smile to my face and make me thank Him for the gentle love touches to my heart. There are also some more complex things that bring me life - community studying the Word together, a welcoming Church community, family time that leaves you feeling full, reading a book beginning to end that makes you think, obedience to reading God's Word and being in communication with Him. While these things are more complex, with obedience to them comes living more freely and experiencing Him in abundance.

So ask yourself this question.. are you living in abundance? If not, why not start now? Practically, write out your own list. What brings you life in the every day moments? Seeing your nails done? Your cup of coffee in the morning? In those short moments when you're liking life, thank Jesus. Consider Him who gave you those moments of joy and maybe you'll start to see them more often. Maybe you'll start to see you are in fact, living your life in abundance.. you might just be missing it. Let your small moments that make you happy and feel alive turn to gratitude and abundant living.

Cheers to abundance.
